Seagate Drive in BIOS but can't see it in file manager

I installed a Solid State Drive as my boot drive earlier this week. It works fine. I want to use the 2TB Seagate that came with my Inspiron 3847 as a backup (slave)drive and I also want to take Windows 10 off of it. I can see the drive in the device manager (drive 1) and in BIOS (SATA 2), but I can't see it in the file manager so I can reformat it. This particular model (ST2000DM001-1ER64) has no jumpers to set it as a slave drive. Seagate says it's automatic. I'm stuck as to how I resolve this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Aurora R4: newly installed SSD only running at G2 / SATA300 - how can I 'persuade' the SATA controller to run at G3 /SATA600?

Good evening.  I was a little undecided on where to post this, but I believe this to be the right location.

I have just replaced the main drive in my Alienware Aurora R4 with a SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD... working perfectly (and pretty fast).  I have carried out a clean build of Windows 10 Pro (x64), upgraded to the very latest version.  I am not using RAID.

The SDD is correctly housed and connected in the SATA01 location.

This Aurora R4 has the 'Dell', well actually 'Intel' Patsburg 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller (Revision A7), capable of supporting G3 / SATA600.  However, both DVD drives are running at G1 / SATA150 and all four disk drives are running at G2 / SATA300.

I have the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, which confirms a SATA transfer rate of 3 Gb/s for my SSD (and for the other three HDD's).

How can I persuade the computer that I want to optimise the performance of my SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD, by having the transfer rate running at G3 / SATA600 ?

I have trawled through a library's worth of web pages, but not found a solution.  I had rather hoped that it would be a BIOS issue (latest installed) or a SATA Controller firmware matter, but that does not seem to be the case.  The Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver allows no fiddling, so I have drawn a blank there.

Any knowledge-based advice would be warmly received... particularly if you have an Aurora R4 that is running an SSD at G3 / SATA600!!

Searching a compatible SSD and speaker for my xps 13

I'm actually living in paris, and i can't seem to be able to find an actual dell store.

I really need to change my SSD drive (which is 126 GB to something like 500 GB, and still SSD)

In paris they offered me these two models and I really need to know if they are compatible with my XPS 13:

1)SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO 500GB BASIC

2)PNY FND SSD XLR8 480 GB

Also, I broke my left internal speaker. Where can I find one in Paris? I really don't like buying online, could you please provide my with a good store in where I could find all this.

Thanks a lot

I just replaced the HDD in this Dell laptop with a WD Blue but instead of a 500GB I bought and installed a WD Blue 1,000GB HDD into the laptop. It recently went out so after going through this I get a error message saying that the Internal Disk Drive not found and has me either do a reboot, setup, or PSA for diagnostics so I did the diagnostics and the HDD is detected I also went into the setup and seen that it is registered there as well. What am I doing wrong or what must I do in order to fix this problem. Thanks!

Inspiron 3452 32GB flash too small

I recently purchased an Inspiron 3452 laptop. The 32GB Flash drive was preinstalled with Windows10. After installing patches, and setting up MS OneDrive, there is only 2GB free of a total of 29GB available. When Windows10 build 1510 tries to install, it says it needs 10GB of free space. So, I'm dead in the water for any additional patches. Why did Dell sell hard drives so small that they can't operate with normal use???

Anyway, I would like to upgrade my HD capacity. There is a 2.5 inch HD bay, but no cables/connectors to for a 2.5 inch hard drive. Is my only option to purchase a higher capacity flash drive, or are there some hidden HD cables that are not visible when you take off the initial outer plastic shell?

Thanks.

How to boot from SSD. Feeling like a moron.

I am trying to get my Dell Inspiron 3847 (AMI Bios revision A08) to boot from a newly added Samsung EVO 250GB SSD. I want to use the SSD for the OS and program files and reserve the HDD that came with the computer for data files. I'm unsure what the trick is to make this happen. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Roy
Here's the present configuration
Windows 10 was cloned from the source HDD to the target Samsung SSD. (At present, Windows 10 is on both drives.) Windows disk management shows both drives show as "healthy" and "online" and partitioned(?) as follows:
    HDD Disk 0:   EFI  |   C: NTFS Boot/Primary  |   Recovery   |    Recovery.
SDD  Disk 1:    Recovery   |    EFI    |    G: NTFS Primary.
The current Bios Settings are:

Boot Mode = UEFI Boot with Legacy OPROM enabled; Secure Boot Off.
Legacy Boot parameters:
  P0 = 1 TB HDD.
  P1 = 250gB SSD.
  P4 = DVD.
SATA Mode = AHCI.
SATA 0 = HDD.
SATA 1 = SDD.
Hard Drive Drivers:
1st Hard Drive = Windows Boot Manager (first one of two listed).
2nd Hard Drive = Windows Boot Manager (second one listed).
Boot Device Order:
  1 USB Storage.
  2 UEFI Windows Boot Manager.
  etc.

Thanks again.

restoring image from HDD to SSD

If I have an partition image from a partitioned drive where the partition is smaller than the new SSD, can I restore the image to the SSD even though the the total size of the HDD is larger than the SSD?  (the HDD has 3 partitions and the system partition is only 250GB).  I do not see why not, but I want to check.

XPS 8500 - Windows not seeing the full capacity of the new 3TB hard dive

My XPS 8500 came with a 2TB hard drive. It died last week so I replaced it with a 3TB but Windows only shows 1.99TB free. The Dell sales agent said the XPS 8500 would work with a 3TB hard drive. It does work, but not at full capacity.

How do I get Windows to recognize the full 3TB?

Booting XPS 8900 from SSD

I'm trying to replace the hard drive on my XPS 8900 desktop with a SanDisk SSD.  When I boot the system I get a error screen that says "Hard Drive - Drive error detected. Alert! Hard Drive or Optical Drive not found"  However, when I hit "continue" on that screen, the system boots fine and works like a charm.

I saw a SanDisk SSD firmware update on downloads.dell.com... I downloaded it, but the zip file appears to be password protected and there is not a password in the instructions on the dell site.

This is very frustrating

Windows 10 in case it matters.

MY INSPIRON N5040 WONT BOOT

Happy New Year,

I'm having unresolved problem with my INSPIRON N5040. I upgraded to windows 10 and I later did a recovery after I noticed some slowness in the system operation.

After the recovery, the error I got is :

An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives than don't contain an operating system.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

I have used Windows 7 USB DVD download tool, Rufus Portable, ZOTAC WinUSB maker, RMPrepUSB and Universal USB Installer but non of them could solve the problem. I later created windows 10 media through USB drive. After inserted the USB, my PC displayed windows logo for about 1 minute and 30 seconds and displayed the following error:

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn’t be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

File: \Windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000225

you'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device) contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings

After Pressing Enter or F8, the same error will come up again.

What can I do. Where can I get a recovery tools and can I use USB?

I installed a new Samsung 500gb SSD 850 EVO in my new XPS 8900 for my boot drive. When I select AHCI in BIOS to work with my SSD, I get an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE message. After doing some research, it appears that AHCI is disabled and only RAID is available. In order to optimize my SSD, I need AHCI enabled. How do I do that?

Hi, I am using Dell Inspiron 5558 15. Just brought it and using it for a few days, my laptop is showing an almost 90 to 100 percent disk usage. Can you tell me if any virus is causing it or something else. I have also attached a snapshot of the task manager. Please note that laptop is new and isnt having any heavy programs or something  like that in it.
