Lattitude E6320 HDD dimensions

I am looking to upgrade my HDD in my E6320 laptop. The current drive is a Seagate 2.5" Thin drive at 7mm. I am wondering can I place a 9.5 mm in there. I like the Seagate Hybrid drive SSHD. I can find no documentation that lists the max size in dimensions of HDDs. Out of warranty so no one in support will answer that simple question without ponying up $19. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

mSATA drive installed- can I add a new SSD and boot from that?

My XPS desktop I got a year ago came with a Samsung SSD PM830. It's installed on the MB- I think these are called mSATA? An SSD not installed on the MB are called eSATA?

Anyway, I'm planning on upgrading the installed SSD with a larger version. But, in case I have trouble with that- since I'll have to remove a huge Radon video card- which doesn't look like it'll be easy (I always worry about these things)- just curious, but if I installed an eSATA drive next to my 2nd internal HHD- something I've done on my older Dell- then I used Acronis backup software to do a "full restore" or do a clone of my existing boot drive (the Samsung SSD)- to this eSATA, then I should be able to go into BIOS and tell it to boot from the new drive, right? Then I could format the Samsung and use it as an extra drive.

SSD seen as HDD in Precision Tower 7910

I have installed a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD into a 7910 workstation for use as the system disk. The disk is working fine as a system disk at the moment, but I can see that Windows is not recognising it as an SDD and as a consequence TRIM is not working. I understand that this will eventually slow down the speed of writing to the disk.

What can I do to get it recognised as an SSD?

Other details:

The system is running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. The workstation original came with an HDD. We simply created a clone of the HDD onto the SSD to move the system across.

The SSD is installed in one of the drive bays which connect it to the LSI Raid controller. We are just using the single disk, i.e. no RAID configuration. Device manager reports it as a SCSI drive. None of the usual utilities work, e.g. you can't see SMART and the SanDisk dashboard tools can't get at it.

Hello,

Can someone please help me? I cannot burn to blank discs. When I try to burn anything the BD-ROM Drive (D:) doesn't read the disc and I end up getting a window that asks to insert disc and spits out the drive with the disc in it.

This is very frustrating as I am chatting to someone from Dell Support who has no idea what the *** I'm going on about. Are they even techs?

If someone could please help that would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to boot from CD, USB, second drive (SSD) - only from original HDD

Hi

I have a Dell XPS 210 desktop with a 1TB HDD. It boots fine (into Windows 7) with the HDD.

Ultimately, I'm trying to replace the DVD drive with a new SSD (240GB), as the OS drive, while retaining the HDD as a data drive. I've cloned the OS partition of the HDD to the SSD (using Macrium Reflect), but I've not been able to boot from the SSD. When I boot into the HDD, I can see the content of the SSD fine.

I also have a USB stick with Windows 7 installer, a USB stick with Macrium Reflect recover, and a DVD with Windows 7 installer. I can boot from all of these on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. However, I am unable to boot from any of them on the desktop (the Dell XPS 210). I've tried various USB ports with the USB sticks.

For all of these cases, the error message is always the same: Selected boot device not available. Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.

I have switched the SATA cables between the HDD and SSD, but the behaviour is the same - I can boot from HDD, but not from SSD.

The BIOS is Dell DXC061 v2.4.0. I've reset to default, and disabled the floppy drive (which isn't physically present). SATA operation is set to AHCI. The HDD, SSD and USB are all present in the boot sequence. I'm hitting F12 at boot time to attempt to select the required one.

Any ideas for why I am only able to boot from the HDD, and not from  any of the other devices?

Thanks,

Calum

Replacing original boot drive Samsumg 1tb with WD black 1tb on Dell XPS 9000/435T running Windows 7

I'm having a problem getting my boot drive replaced. I have used both Macrium Reflect backup software and the WD cloning software. After I complete a successful clone using either software I have the following problem. After I log in I go to the Control Panel, System and Security, Check for updates. A red block with a red shield is displayed. The text inside the block states:Check for updates for your computer. Lower right of that block it has a "Check for updates" option. I click on it and it displays: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer. I bring up task manager and wuauserv is Running.

Another strange thing is that if do Rt click on Computer icon select Manage I get a prompt User Access Control for CompMgmtLauncher.exe with publisher unknown. This prompt does NOT display if I'm using the original hard drive. I checked the User account control and it is the same on both drives. (I only have one boot drive running at a time in the system.)

Is there something that makes the OS check the boot drive to see if it has been changed? If it is an exact copy then is there something in the BIOS that is causing this problem? Is it something that only happens with Dell systems? Any assistance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fastest way to replace failing mechanical HD in XPS 8700 with 32GB mSATA?

$

I have an XPS 8700 with 32GB mSata + 2TB mechanical drive. Mechanical drive is failing per the Intel utility. I saw something in the Intel utility about making it hot swappable. Any way to replace the 2TB without reinstalling Windows 7 and everything else? Also, I turned off the error indicator in the Intel utility so the drive is no longer marked in error. If I just add the new 2TB drive and leave the old one can I actually get it to rebuild on the new drive as would happen in a RAID?

Or do I have to replace the failing drive then reinstall Windows 7 and all the applications? That's the most straight-forward method but want to find out if there's a shortcut.

Thanks!! Robert Cohen

I have tried several programs in an attempt to burn dvds with both data info and slide shows to no avail.  I have tried both an internal burner as well as an external one.  The external drive ends with an unsuccessful burn.  The internal burner runs on and on and I can only stop it by rebooting.  Any ideas and help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Dell DVD+/-RW DW514 USB Device

I purchased an external DVD drive for my XPS 9530 as it did not come with an optical drive.  I haven't used it mush (mostly to load programs or pull down file backups).  Since I have loaded Windows 10 it will not work.  It seems to go in and out of being recognized and whirs a while the down and whirs again like it is trying to 'run'.  When I plug it into a USB the computer recognizes the drive but as soon as I insert a disk, it starts all over -recognized, not recognized- but  won't play or anything.  I have tried to find a new driver but Dell says one is not needed.

Dell has been absolutely no help.  I have been trying to get answers since late November.

Anyone have a suggestion?
