I have a Dell Dimension 8400 where the disk (320 GB) started to give errors. Eventually the PC would not boot. I have replaced it with a Seagate 500 GB drive. Rather than try to clone the stuff across I have started from scratch and installed Windows XP SP3.
The PC has behaved faultlessly and the BIOS identified the disk as 500 GB OK, but I'm now starting to worry that the 8400 has an upper limit on disk size, and everything will turn to custard when I exceed that.
The BIOS is the most recent (A09).
Should I be worried? If there is a limit (and it's less than 500GB), what are my options? - presumably I'll need to partition the drive, but will I be able to do that with the existing OS and data "in place"?
Thanks.
