I just purchased a XPS 8700 that came with Windows 7 (my choice) and a single DVDRW 12x drive. This machine is replacing an ten year old Dimension 8400. I want to add a second DVD drive to avoid the disk shuffle when making copies.
The last time I did this was when they were still using the old PATA drives where the drive data cable was the old ribbon cable and you used a splitter for the power cable.
I have never installed a SATA drive so I have a few questions. When I order my second drive, what additional cables do I need to complete the installation - or is all the cabling already in the computer?
One last question is - what size format is used in the XPS 8700 and how do you remove the knockout in the drive bay?
Thanks for any advice - Tom
