Hello,
I've got an Inspiron 17R SE–7720 and I decided to add an SSD to it and do a clean Windows installation. I took out the original HDD so that Windows would be installed completely on the SSD. Things went smoothly and Windows booted properly.
However, after restarting, the following happens:
- Without the original HDD in the laptop:
- I get the "pxe-e61 media test failure" when the installation CD is out
- I get the "Press Any Key to Boot from CD or DVD" when the CD is in. When I don't press anything (or take the CD out immediately!), Windows starts properly from the SSD. When I press a button, it launches the installation from the CD.
- With the HDD in the laptop:
- I get the "No operating system found" message if the installation CD is out.
- If the CD is in, the installation is launched.
I tried every possible boot order and option in BIOS, they don't help. There also isn't an option to select the SSD. I can only select the first and second HDD and some other options (network, USB etc.). On the main BIOS screen, I can see that the SSD is detected properly.
Now, I wouldn't mind keeping the installation CD in the laptop all the time so that it could boot up (from the SSD, it doesn't even use the CD, it only makes it possible to boot up for some reason), but this doesn't work when I put the original HDD back in the laptop.
I'd appreciate any help with this.
Thank you.
