I recently bought a used Inspiron 6400 that worked fine until yesterday, when it started having trouble loading Windows XP. Windows would load very slowly and I got an error message about it not being able to find the user profile and using a temporary user profile instead but not saving any user settings upon shutdown. I tried to reinstall Windows XP, but it couldn't reformat the hard drive. Now when I try to restart in safe mode, even that won't load. When I run the PSA, Preboot System Diagnostics, it gives me a fail message for the Hard Drive - DST Short Test and error code 2000-0146. I looked up the error code on the Dell website, and it said to reset the BIOS to all the defaults. I did that, but got the same error code when I re-ran the PSA. Can someone please tell me what's wrong?
