Replacing Hard Drive message "Your hard drive size is not supported for this process."

I have a XPS 9000 with a 1 TB Hard Drive & Win 7 64. I created my dell Recovery Disks when I first bought got my PC a year ago.
Recently, I bought a 256 GB SSD. My plan was to remove the slow 1TB HD, install the news SSD and use the recovery disk to re-install my Dell factory settings.

Simple right? Well, no because it gives me this error message when I insert the Recovery Disk "Your hard drive size is not supported for this process. Please use a hard drive at least 956 GB in size".

This makes no sense since Win 7 only take 20 gigs to install & I had less than 100GB of total data (mostly dell adware) when I made the recovery disk. For some reason,  the Recovery Disk is forcing me to only use a hard drive that is 1 TB or bigger. I called India support and they couldn't figure out whether this was a Hardware or Software issue....

The only thing I can think of is buying a stand alone copy of Win 7. But  that's like 200$ or more.
I can`t be the only one with this issue? Can anyone please help me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
