(T1650) BIOS Sees External esata Drive--Windows 7 does not

The computer is brand new. I have looked at the updated drivers list, but nothing seems applicable. The ext drive is recognized in the BIOS in SATA3 slot (where it is plugged in), but nowhere in Windows 7. BIOS SATA operation is set to RAID. The ext HDD is not a RAID. Don't know if this is significant, but I was scared off changing to AHCI by warning message in BIOS. Rescan does not solve problem. Hotswap does nothing. Drive works fine on XP machine, so I don't think there is a cable issue.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff
