I know its sounds like drive dead but want to make sure. MY pc started giving messages about a problem, i didnt do anything (Dohh!!), then it happened, when i started up pc, a message:

AHCI Port0 device error. press f2 to resume.

which then took me toCMOS setup, i come out of that and all was well, then today all was not well.

same thing happened but when i come out of cmos it just goe sback to the start...AHCI Porto device...... round in circles

I did manage to run a diognostic test which took about 30 mins, it came back:

eroor code 0142

msg: error code 2000-0142

test unsuccessful status 49.

Another test i found came back error code oxo bad hard drive

i saw error 8506,421 at one point.

Before this all happened the message was :

system reporting 1 or more events and data may be at risk. So i did back up everything, just as well....

Over the few days this all happened i noted down any messages roughly, hense all these messages i am saying without saying where some of them come from. lots of notes written down, without what happned sorry.

Anyway, my pc is a Dell Studio xps 8100

Has my drive completly died, which looks like it has, but my concern is, is it just the drive? if i buy a new one is something else going to be wrong, or is it just the drive.

thanks guys

paul
