"Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware."

I have a Latitude E6400 refurb bought from Dell June 2012. It has Vista Business but I am a home user.  HD started shutting down 10 minutes after startup about a month ago. I was able to get my files from it onto a flash drive. Went on Dell website and with my service tag number 9TCCBK1 saw a list of HD's said to be compatible with my laptop. Purchased one from the list 500GB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Hybrid, S3, 512E, TBR-SSH. It's a Seagate. Installed it and reloaded Vista Business 32BIT SP1 from the original disk supplied to me by Dell when I bought the laptop. Installation progressed normally until the very end when the message appeared: "Windows setup could not configureWindows to run on this computer's hardware." It asks to restart the installation: when I did it put Vista on the drive again and then gives the same message. F12 at startup shows two copies of Vista on the HD. Diagnostics of HD OK.  Checking BIOS for the drive, it says "SATA configured to support IRRT."

I will appreciate any advice to get this working.
