I bought a brand new XPS 8700. It comes with one 1TB HDD. I bought an identical 1TB HDD and hoping to create RAID1 for data protection.
- The computer came with Windows 8. I rebuilt it with Windows 7 Enterprises prior to any customizations.
- Applied all OS patches and installed all drivers including Intel Chipset and Rapid Storage Technology.
- Opened the chassis and installed the new 1TB HDD on SATA1. (moved DVD to SATA2)
- Booted the system and Windows recognized the new HDD. No issue here.
- Rebooted the system to BOIS and changed SATA Mode from ACHI to RAID.
- System crashes to blue screen during Windows OS loading. In the next boot Windows asked system repair. I did and still failed to boot.
I also tried reverting from RAID mode to ACHI in BIOS. Windows booted fine. Where am I missing? Note, I don’t mind wiping out the entire HDD and do a fresh install because I don’t have any personal data on it yet. If there was a “known working” process, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
