USB 3.0 port not recognized on Win10 Creators Update

My USB.30 port has stopped working since upgrading to Windows 10 Creators Update.  It could be coincidence, however a google search revealed similar issues on other systems.  Although my laptop model (3552) is supposedly verified for the the upgrade, I question how thorough the testing is.

All of the USB drivers are up-to-date (no errors).  I garnered from reading over similar issues the culprit is likely a new driver "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)", with a date of 4/27/2017.  Rollback is not an option and any attempts to replace it result in a message that the most current driver is already installed.  The drive is recognized initially (though sometimes after a delay), but in less than a minute disappears and goes through the recognition process again and again. The two USB 2.0 ports are healthy.

Of course I could rollback the upgrade but prefer to wait for a a driver or perhaps BIOS update to resolve this (the BIOS is also current).  That is, provided Dell is aware there is an issue.  The laptop is recently out of warranty so can't report through that channel (and wouldn't want to jump through those hoops to confirm what I already know).

Thanks,
