I am trying to add a second drive (an SSD) to my OptiPlex 3046 MT. This is equipped with a 500 GB HDD in the 3.5 in bay. There are two empty 2.5 in bays for additional drives. However, I am finding that installing a second drive is not straightforward!
The manual for the 3046 MT actually shows the removal/replacement of the main HDD drive in a 2.5 in bay (although in fact in my 3046 MT it is installed in the 3.5 in bay). This seems to show that a second HDD (or SSD) would have to be installed in a blue plastic carrier which slots into a 2.5 in bay. So far I can find no way for obtaining this blue plastic carrier needed to install a 2.5 in drive, or even finding its part number.
A second drive in a 2.5 in bay would also require a SATA cable (I believe that Dell's part number for this might be 6J3FV), but I am not clear how this needs to be fitted and whether it would replace the SATA cable associated with the original HDD in the 3.5 in bay.
Any information from anyone who has fitted a second drive to their OptiPlex 3046 MT would be much appreciated!
