Has anyone successfully upgraded the Liteon 32 GB 2242 M.2 SSD Cache on their XPS 8900?
I have a Dell XPS 8900 that I purchased a few months ago and want to upgrade the Liteon 32 GB M.2 2242 SSD. My system has the 2TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive + 32GB M.2 SSD Cache, 32 GB of memory, and the i7-6700k processor running Intel RST with acceleration mode set to "enhanced".
It is my understanding that the 32 GB Liteon 2242 M.2 SSD is being used as a HDD Cache. Also, according to Intel, the maximum size for a HDD cache that RST supports is 64 GB. So, I would like to replace the existing Liteon M.2 drive with a 64 GB M.2 SSD drive.
I found that Transcend has a 64 GB M.2 2242 SSD drive (TS64GMTS400) and would like to know if this will work. Amazon has it for less than $40; https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-MTS400-Solid-State-TS64GMTS400/dp/B00KLTPSKM/.
I am not a hardware person, so I would also like to know if the Transcend drive will require any additional hardware or software other than what was delivered with my Dell PC? For example, will I need to replace the Dell drive board that the Liteon CS1-SP32-11 is mounted to?
Thank you very much for your help.
