Hello All:
Customer Care board directed me here. I hate to post an old problem, but I'm really pressed for time to correct this problem. I appreciate anything this board can do to help.
My CD/DVD RW suddenly will not read CD's. At first it would read DVDs, but I think it is really intermittent now, and not blanks for recording, just pre-recorded media. It is identified in the device manager. It kindof tries to read the disk, and the noise isn't like I'd heard in bad drives. It almost feels software related to me, but it was working for two years without any issues, so I don't understand. To my knowledge, nothing has changed.
I have: deleted the upper and lower filters, deleted the device and re-installed, attempted to update driver (downloaded the same driver from Dell website). It originally told me I have the newest driver, but I noticed the date, so I tried it anyway, but the driver is the same. I did it twice, and the date didn't even change.
Is the drive just done. I'm somewhat computer inclined--especially software, but I really don't like, have the knowledge, time, or dexterity to take apart a computer. That's why I have a warranty.
Let's see what info I can give you. Let me know what else I can tell you. I will try my best.
