I have a recent vintage XPS 8700 built 4/24/2015 with windows 8.1. I strongly dislike Win 8 and barely tolerate 7, but rather than attempt a return, I found a HD switch that will allow me to choose a given Hard Drive from as many as 4--I intend to stay with two. The issue is not the mechanical installation, but rather the comments I have viewed on the Internet that concern certain characteristics of the bios which, unless handled properly, might cause non-recognition of the new drive.
My planned steps include (1) adding the 2nd drive (2) adding the switch assembly (it occupies a PCI access slot--very compact) (3) re-booting with the new drive powered.
If recognized, I will format and install my Windows 7 OS.
The forum question: Is this the correct pathway? Are there special concerns to be taken with the bios?
All help is very much appreciated.
