Hi,
I am using my Dell xps l502x from 2013 with Windows 7. Few months ago I have installed couple of other operating systems (Windows Server 2012 r2 and Linux lite) and system was working fine.
Couple of days ago, I shutdown my system properly in the evening and when next day, I started it again and select the windows 7 operating system, the blue screen appeared and system restarted. I again selected the windows 7 and it restarted again after showing blue screen. I tried Windows Server 2012 and it also displayed Error ("Your system ran into problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some info and then we'll restart for you") and restarted the system. I tried again for couple of times with Windows server 2012 with no luck.
After trying windows os I selected Linux lite and it was (is) working fine. I tried to access the windows drives from linux lite os but could not succeed to mount.
I ran the Diagnostic utility from Bios which produced the following error:
(Error Code 0142.
Msg: Error Code 2000-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful. Status: 79 .... )
I have tried many suggestions from different forums but with no luck.
I am confused, if hard disk is dead then why Linux OS is still working [*-)]
2ndly, OS (or Hard drive utility) did not give any kind of warning for hard-disk failure.
Though, I have back-up of most data but how can I recover the important data (of last couple of months).
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Regards
Umar
