Getting error "Volumes larger than 2088958 megabytes cannot be protected" on upgraded 3TB hard drive

My Dell 8300 hard drive crashed recently and I ended up upgrading it to a 3TB (Seagate 7200rpm) drive.  I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit on it and everything everything seems to have gone smooth.

However, when I try to make a system image to an external back up, I am now presented with the following error: "Volumes larger than 2088958 megabytes cannot be protected (0x807800B4)

I am quite concerned I may have installed an incompatible hard drive and this is going to give me issues in the future.  Can someone please help me understand the following:

1) Why am I not able to make an image and what are my options (ie: can 3rd party software help)?

2) I noticed only 2 TB of the 3TB  is showing for C drive.  Is there anyways for me to use the missing 1TB  without having to reinstall win7 ?

3) I also noticed my machine hangs sometime. I have 6GB if memory installed and this was never an issue earlier (I believe I had a 1TB drive).  Should I upgrade the 6GB to something higher because now I have a larger drive?

Thank you in advance for all your answers!!
