Hi;
I have an Aluratek AT197F (Cinepad 9.7) which I bought from Dell 18 months ago. It runs Android 4.04. Aside from one complaint I love this tablet! It only came with 2 GB internal Memory, a common issue from tablets of this era. I bought a Kobo Arc 7, 6 months ago, and it came with 50 GB!
The Aluratek does have external SD memory slot in which I installed a Lexar 16 GB chip. This was a partially satisfying upgrade. But despite advertised claims of watching HD movies, the online movie vendors will not allow saves to anything but internal memory so I searched for a way around this. The only hint: "Rooting". Sadly these Aluratek tablets are not very common and it took several months before I found the "Kingo" rooting software. It worked just fine.
Next, I wanted to add real storage capability, especially to watch movies and video. Here is the solution I found.
USB OTG adapter (On the go) which cost under $5
Belkin 5V powered hub which cost under $30
this beauty has 6 standard and on micro USB ports
3. 1TB Seagate Slim USB hard drive which cost under $80 from Dell
plugged into a USB 3.0 port on my XPS 8500 and filled filled it up with the movies and videos I wanted to watch on the Tablet 'on the go'.
4. I connected the Slim drive to the powered hub and "Voila!" movies on my Tablet! Android could read and write the drive which was formatted by Windows 8.1 without a hiccup.
5. I have also connected wired and WiFi keyboards and mice which work via the hub on my tablet. A Logitech WiFi keyboard with a touchpad (K400) works very well. The WiFi USB receiver, plugged into the hub works with Android, though specs only say Windows.
SO: my next thought is adding a DVD drive. Will it work? I see Dell has a nice little USB DVD drive on sale: Has anyone had success with this drive on and Android tablet/phone?
