I own a Dell Inspiron 7537 and have been experiencing some odd sounds from my HDD. idk what causes it, but it rarely happens but when it does happen, it's just merely a scratching noise. Today when using the laptop, I heard a noticeable sound from it, and it was different from the other ones that I rarely hear, but this one was different, it was more of a really fast scratch or click.
Here's a website http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php .I thought this be handy as it includes HDD sounds. Below are listed one, I think some may sound similar to the one I heard, but make sure to only hear the first noise the rest just forget about as the sound I heard only happen once and was quick, so you could say it was a flick, click or scratch idk.
1)IBM 40GB desktop hard drive with degraded media/heads rattles and squeals on spin up.
2)Toshiba laptop drive with bad heads making clicking/sweeping sound on boot up. (Imagne the first sound to bit louder)
3)Fujitsu laptop hard drive with bad heads making sweeping sound. (clicking sound is almost similar)
I have ran some tests using Seagate software on my HDD which, I think does the trick and so far from my understanding that it's a pass, but i'm not sure if it's right to trust it, as even though it passes, I tend to get clicking or scratching sounds at random times. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a serious problem as this laptop isn't that old, I've only had it for....maybe 4-5 months maybe?
