My hard drive died on my Dell Studio XPS 435MT. I am trying to do a clean install of Windows Vista 64bit on my new HDD using the Reinstallation DVD provided by Dell with the PC.
1) I am not able to boot from the CD/DVD drive where the Reinstallation DVD is. I have set boot priorities and disabled booting from the hard drive. Every time I attempt to boot from the CD/DVD drive I am given a message saying "No Diagnostic Utility Partition Identified; Press any key to reboot..."
If I unplug the new HD, then I am able to boot from the CD/DVD drive and I can get to the Windows Installation screens. However, then I cannot point the installation to the new hard drive.
2) Like I said I am able to boot to the Windows Installation screens when the HD is initially unplugged when booting. After I get to the Windows Installation screen I plug the HD back into the motherboard. Should the new HD be recognized if I do this? Currently it is not.
3) Following the instructions here, I am told I need "prepare a SATA USB stick in advance".

Which drivers to I need? I have tried the drivers at this link, but when I attempt to load them at the Windows Install screen I get a message saying that they cannot be found.
Thanks.
