Is older SATA II drive OK in a new XPS 8700?

I have some almost-new "old" WD SATA II drives; i.e., they are barely used, but not "Advanced Format."  They are some I used on my old Win XP computer.  I've wiped and reformatted them.   Is it OK to use them with my new XPS 8700 running Windows 7 even though they are not advanced format?

And can one of these older drives be used as a system boot drive?  If so, do I need to change anything in the BIOS or Windows 7 due to it not being an "Advanced Format" drive?

And if one can be used as the system drive, can I restore a disk image of the Dell factory partition and Windows 7 to it?  Would I need any kind of special partition or drive utility?

Thanks for info.
